Capital City/Lake Murray Country (CCLMC), is one of the state's eleven tourism regions within The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism (PRT) and The South Carolina Association of Tourism Regions (SCATR). CCLMC is charged with promoting tourism in Lexington, Newberry, Richland and Saluda Counties.
Since its inception in April 1981, the regional tourism office has generated over $527 million dollars in tourism revenues for the state of South Carolina.
The organization has received numerous awards including:
CCLMC receives its funding from accommodation tax funds, S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism funds, membership dues, and private donations. CCLMC raises over 40% of its budget through tourism related projects and events that the organization has created and/or sponsored.
Some of these promotional events in the past have included the SC Golfers Showcase, production of the Columbia Boat Show for over 18 years, and the creation of the statewide SC RV Show. Our traditional event, Lake Murray's July 4th Celebration, is in its 20th year. In 2005, a"Fireworks Fundraiser" was created to support that celebration....thus the Taste of Lake Murray was born. In its inaugural year, over $44,000 was raised to produce the annual fireworks show. CCLMC's most popular and longstanding promotional events inlude the numerous national fishing tournaments we recruit to beautiful Lake Murray, which in turn provide national televised coverage for millions in the United States.
The organization's business goals are as follows:
. To stimulate the economic and cultural environment of the four-county area by increasing the number of tourists visiting the region
. Provide recreational opportunities in the region and Lake Murray
. Enhance recreational facilities/public services and activities
. Promote good business
